RENOWNED VEGAN PHYSICIAN AND SOCIAL ACTIVIST TO SPEAK IN
COLORADO
DENVER, CO---March 4, 2003,---FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Vegetarian Society
of Colorado is pleased to announce the arrival this month of Dr. Michael
Greger, renowned physician and social activist.
Michael Greger, M.D.
, a general practitioner specializing in
vegetarian nutrition, is a nationally recognized speaker whose lectures focus on
a number of important public health and social justice issues. His extensive
knowledge regarding "Mad Cow Disease" has enabled him to speak
before the FDA as Farm Sanctuary’s chief investigator and to partake in the
highly publicized debates associated with the National Cattlemen's Beef
Association Director. In recognition of his expertise, Dr. Greger was
also asked to speak in defense of Oprah Winfrey in the infamous "meat
defamation trial" in 1998. Currently, Dr. Greger continues to
educate the public concerning the threat of Mad Cow Disease through
collaborative work with the Organic Farmers Association.
Dr. Greger will be touring Colorado to speak on a variety of important
nutritional and environmental topics beginning March 15th, 16th
and 17th. These lectures are Free and Open to the Public.

Dr. Greger is a general practitioner specializing in vegetarian nutrition. He
is author of Heart Failure: Diary of
a Third Year Medical Student and has contributed to a number of books on
veganism and food safety issues. Dr. Greger is a graduate of the Cornell
University School of Agriculture and the Tufts University School of Medicine. He
lives in Boston, where he has been an active member of Food
Not Bombs, Boston
Ecofeminist Action, the Boston
Vegetarian Society, the Lucy
Parsons Center and the BALM Squad
(Boston Area Liberation Medic Squad). His visit to Colorado is being sponsored
by The Vegetarian Society of Colorado, EarthSave, PAWS, and the Rocky Mountain
Animal Defense (RMAD) HEALTH program.
Never before has the controversy over beef and dairy products been so heated
- from unconventional lawsuits, such as PETA's against the Dairy Council's
"Happy Cow" ad campaign, to this summer's massive tainted beef
recalls. Dr. Greger's visit promises to be an eye-opening experience for anyone
interested in learning more about the impact our food choices make on our
bodies, animals, and our planet.
