November:
Animal Sanctuary Tour
Date: Saturday, November 1st
Time: 10:30am
Please join us as we carpool to Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary, about an hour outside of Denver. Michelle from Peaceful Prairie will introduce us to all the wonderful beings who are provided a home at the sanctuary, and will let us know the projects we can help them with in the future! We will set up carpools from Boulder, and plan to leave around 9:00am. Space is limited for the tour (too many humans at one time can make the animals nervous), so we will need to know ahead of time if you plan to go. Please email me to let me know if you will join us, or with any questions at
boulder@vsc.org.
Turkey-Free Holiday Outreach
Date: Saturday, November 15th
Time: 11:00am
Come help us hang information packets on the doors of 500 homes in Boulder!
The packets will contain copies of Vegetarian Times, Vegetarian Starter Packs, Veg Recipes, Coupons for Vegetarian Food Items, and Special Holiday Veg Recipes. We will meet in the parking lot of the strip mall located at Broadway and Baseline (where Wild Oats is located). If you do not have the time to help out on the 15th, but would like to contribute your favorite holiday veg recipe to the packets, please let me know! Email me with any questions at
boulder@vsc.org.
Free Showing
of "The Witness"
Date: Friday, Nov. 21
Time: 5 - 8 pm
Place: CU Boulder campus, Humanities 150
We are having a FREE film showing and Thanksgiving dinner on the CU Boulder campus from 5 to 8pm this Friday, November 21st.
We are showing The Witness at 5pm in room 150 of the Humanities Building, off of Pleasant Street. If you go to the CU Boulder website and search for "maps", you can pull up a map of where the Humanities Bldg. is located on campus. For those who have not seen it,
The Witness is an award winning documentary about how a construction contractor became an animal rights activist, and is a great film to bring your non-veg friends to!! To find out more, go to the Tribe of Heart website.
After that, we are giving out free vegan food, answering questions, and taking donations for Peaceful Prairie Animal Sanctuary (www.peacefulprairie.org). We are taking both cash donations, and donations of sleeping
bags / comforters / blankets for the pigs at the sanctuary -- they like to snuggle under the blankets, and they go through them like crazy! So, if you have any extra blankies lying around that you do not need, please bring them along. If you would like to be emailed a picture of one of the Peaceful Prairie pigs tucked in under a blanket, let me know!
Thanksgiving Potluck
Date: Thursday, November 27th
Time: 12:00 (noon)
Rather than have a separate Boulder potluck, we will be carpooling to the annual VSC Potluck in Denver. We expect great food, great conversation, and we have some really cool silent auction items!! This is also a wonderful way to introduce your non-vegetarian friends to all the incredible vegetarian foods available, so bring a friend! Please email me at boulder@vsc.org if you would like to carpool with someone, and I will make sure we all get in touch with each other for a place to meet. I suggest carpools leave Boulder by 11:00am, but I will need to leave earlier to help set up. If you would like to leave early with me to help with the set up, please let me know!
December:
Holiday Party For The Animals
Date: Saturday, December 13th
Time: 1:00
What does a goat want to eat at a holiday party? "Pretty much anything" says Lynn of Bleating Hearts Animal Sanctuary. Join us for an educational tour of the sanctuary, and then some vegan dessert and hot drinks afterward at the home of Lynn and Dave, who run the sanctuary. We will be bringing some goodies for the animals, and I will email out a "wish list" a little closer to the date. Let's meet at noon in the parking lot at the strip mall located at Broadway and Baseline (where Wild Oats is located), and carpool up to the sanctuary together! Please email me with any questions!
Animal-Free Holiday Outreach
Date: Friday, December 19th
Time: 12:00 (noon)
We are handing out vegetarian info packets again! This time, we are going to local businesses in Boulder and taking information they can put in their break rooms. We will be handing out a flyer they can hang that will have websites with vegetarian holiday recipe info, as well as more coupons, literature, and recipes. If you want to help, but can't make it on December 19th, feel free to make copies of your favorite holiday recipe to include with the other info! Let's meet at the now familiar shopping center at Broadway and Baseline at 12:00 noon. Please email me with any questions!
Well Deserved Brunch
Date: Sunday, December 21st
Time: 11:30
After all our hard work, education, and outreach throughout November and December, we deserve to just sit and relax for a change! The Sunflower Restaurant, located at 1701 Pearl, has a very nice, relaxing atmosphere, and they have a wonderful brunch with lots of vegetarian and vegan items. I look forward to seeing you all there at 11:30, and talking about what a great year we have had! It is best that we have a table reserved, so please email me to let me know if you are able to join us.
