Grand Junction Branch News

How fortunate we were, welcomed to Buffin Farm Community Supported Agriculture by farmers Carol Lamm and Thom Mog to enjoy the gifts nature rewarded them for their labors. The August potluck was followed by a 'herbal treasures' scavenger hunt-from the sweetness of chamomile and stevia, to the spicy bite of fresh basil, we all had an enchanting evening.
...what do you feed the crowd at the first annual Yoga Festival? Curried Garbanzos with Greens, Basmati Rice, Carrot Salad, Peach Scones and Carob Chews seemed to please the crowd, and helped with our fund raising. A big THANK YOU! to all those helping in the kitchen, To Ram Dhan Khalsa for her organizing, and to Sundrop Grocery for their food donation.

Is eating healthful food and getting some enjoyable exercise newsworthy? Both television stations KREX and KKCO thought so, and did superb jobs at covering our September potluck and hike on the Colorado National Monument. To add to the day, a group of us decided to attend the 'Circus Chimera' where the all human entertainers thrilled us with their truly amazing performances.

Our monthly half hour radio show, Vegetarian Stew, on Community Radio Station KAFM 88.1, featured an interview with long time vegetarian Karalyn Dorn, recently returned from a two year stay in Guatemala with the Peace Corps. Thanks to Karalyn for sharing some of her experiences, and for her commitment to working for social justice. We also appreciate Kate Lawrence, former VSC president, for her discussion of her recently published essay,"Nourishing Ourselves, Nourishing Others: How Mindful Food choices Reduce Suffering," from Mindfulness in the Marketplace: Consuming with Compassion.
