Grand Junction Area Branch News

We have been having an active Summer! Our June potluck didn't have the organic strawberries as noted, but the garden was lovely and we enjoyed a table full of delicious veg food and some guitar tunes by Nat.

June's Vegetarian Stew radio show interviewed Paige Roberts -- an inspiring young vegetarian working on her Exercise Physiology degree at Mesa State College.

At the Community Fair at Mesa Mall, samples of tofuna and tempeh salad drew a crowd to our table. Not many people guessed the answer to our 'scavenger hunt' question -- how many animals are killed for food in the USA every year? Answer: close to 10 billion land animals, and an unknown amount of fishes and sea animals. 10,000,000,000+ that is.

Will Tuttle was our guest on Veg Stew in July. He spoke of the spiritual and ethical basis for a vegan diet, and we learned about the Prayer Circle for Animals. Please check out his website at www.willtuttule.com. We surely enjoyed his piano music from the CD, Sky High.

We found paradise at our July potluck at Carl and Tonya's off grid retreat in Paradox, Colorado. Hope you all can join us next year for our yearly get away. A gracious thanks go to our hosts!

How fast could we give away 200 Soy Delicious 'Lil Buddies' non-dairy frozen dessert sandwiches? They drew a crowd to our booth and were quickly gobbled up at the Downtown Farmers Market. Indeed they were deelicious! Thanks go to Turtle Mountain, makers of Soy Delicious for their yummy product donation. And even more thanks go to all of our great volunteers -- Carol and Carole, Jody, Joe, Karalyn, Marian and Tom!
