Branch Update

Our April potluck festivities were sobered by a viewing of the video "Devour the Earth', narrated by Paul McCartney, produced in 1995. Almost 10 years later and the situation continues to deteriorate. Human behavior change cannot happen soon enough for our compassionate tastes. What positive, effective actions can we take everyday to move our species towards a compassionate, sustainable world?

In May on Vegetarian Stew radio show, we interviewed Linda McBride, executive director of Spring Creek Ranch Mesa, a non-profit, educational organization offering programs which integrate art with land stewardship and wilderness studies. For more information visit www.springcreekranchmesa.com.

Imagine tortillas, freshly made, from organic whole wheat flour -- and peanut butter? Yes, Daniel's scrumptious creations were a great accompaniment to our May, 'Hot or Not' Mexican Dinner Potluck.

At the Western Colorado Nutrition Education Conference a participant told me, "Your ears must be burning; everyone here is saying that a vegetarian diet is the way to go." Yes! Thanks go to Kelli Kessell for helping sponsor the VSC's information table at the conference. In addition to a vegetarian diet's nutritional benefits, Kelli is quick to mention, "If people really knew how the animals are treated...". We know the rest. Yes, let's do let people know, and offer them some great, healthful vegetarian alternatives!

“If you couldn’t conceive of beating an animal, you shouldn’t conceive of eating an animal.”
