Grand Junction Area Branch News

Humane Education was our February Vegetarian Stew Radio Show topic, with Zoe Weil of the International Institute of Humane Education speaking about their ‘Sowing Seeds’ workshop. Her newest book is ‘Above All, Be Kind, Raising a Humane Child in Challenging Times’ -- she made many good points about inspiring children to be kind. Her web address is www.iihed.org.

At our potluck, after dining, we all laughed and learned while watching Michael Greger M.D.’s video, “Maximum Nutrition, Transitioning to a Plant Based Diet”.  We are all inspired to eat those leafy greens, and work towards getting those ‘Nine a Day’ fruits and vegetables. Check out his website for more information, www.veganmd.org.

Rynn Berry, author of ‘Food for the Gods’ and newly released ‘Hitler, Neither Vegetarian Nor Animal Lover’ was interviewed on March’s Veg Stew Radio Show.  My favorite quote of his, “Jesus was a vegetarian animal rights activist.”  Amen.  For more on Rynn Berry see www.vegsource.com/berry/

The Great American MeatOut was celebrated in GJct in front of Mesa County Public Library, with yummy samples of Gardenburger and Tofurkey Jerky given out by our talented tablers Carole, Joe, Karalyn, Diana and Marian with help from Tom and Pat.  Thanks go to Carole for getting our event covered in the Grand Junction Free Press.

Our VegIn potluck followed, with the starring cruciferous vegetables – kale, broccoli, and cabbage, accompanied by many delightful dishes and a finale of both chocolate and carob cakes; encores were enjoyed.  Thanks to all of you who make this society what it is.
