Ingrid the Goat

My name is Ingrid.
I now live a life of freedom, safety, and pleasure on Peaceful
Prairie Sanctuary. This was not always my fate. Before I came here, I
led the life of a dairy goat.
I was repeatedly impregnated against my will, and my babies were
slaughtered right after birth. With my udder full, and no newborns to
nurse from me, the dairy farmer took my milk.
My young udder could not withstand the constant lactation cycles
caused by the pregnancies. I developed mastitis, which went untreated
for so long that my right teat was consumed with gangrene.
My new caretakers at Peaceful Prairie got me immediate veterinary
care. The toxins from the gangrene had entered my blood stream and would
have killed me if they hadn’t treated it so quickly.
I’m happy to say that I will never again have to endure the loss of
my babies or suffer from painful and dangerous milking practices.
I’m healthy and happy. My herdmates and I spend the days roaming
and grazing on the prairie and the nights curled up together in a warm
comfy barn.
